Bored? How about Mentoring a Newbie?

?, since I have this fancy Apex system, what do you think about cycling the power heads on/off throughout the day?

I need to fix the foundations first.
We need a salt that he can test and show good parameters. That will eliminate any doubt with his test method and his salt.
Ince that is achieved we do water changes and adjust system parameters. I do not want him to chase too many variables since systemnis happy.
I am big I'm to stability and small movements to avoid shocking the system

Agreed - I was only saying 'before dosing Ca or alkalinity' - seems like Mg would be first:)... you're going a great job

I would not do thay now.not every power head you can cycle it like that, and I think apex have some outlets that should not be cycled frequently.
To creat random current flows you meed specific power heads that have either their conteoller or that are built for such on off cycles.
You do not need it, especially with your coral load.
If we venture in to some coral that require such we will look in to cost effective options.
I might even send you some of my old MP10s that I am not using anymore.
Foundations first:
Test quality(done)
Salt source(done)
Equipments tuning (done)
Nutrients (on going)
Foundation elements(on going)
Understood, thank you

Love seeing this thread and, hopefully, it will inspire more people to follow in the same vein!

Keep up the goodness!

You see..we are on the tight path.
How about mag?
When did you test po4 and no3 last time?
Mag went from 1050 on July 7th to 1050 now
PO4 went from 0 on July 7th to 0 now
NO3 went from .2 on July 7th to .5 now

Download an app called Aquarium Note and keep track of everything you do. Set a schedule for maintaining, cleaning, inspecting, water changes and water quality. Ammonia, Nitrite, nitrate, phosphates, High PH, Calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium. That should get you started.

Mag went from 1050 on July 7th to 1050 now
PO4 went from 0 on July 7th to 0 now
NO3 went from .2 on July 7th to .5 now
Ok, we will wait till you do your 1st water change with the good salt, then we will need to dose mag.
Remind me again how you testing po4? Was it hannah?
