Boring surface water, Anyone really on their game?

What a great life sitting back looking at my very cool tank…….but all of the sudden thinking! The water at the surface is semi turbulent but definitely not wave like. Why don’t I have some 1/2” or so waves? Going all the way across the tank?

1. What’s the best pump out there that you’ve seen or presently own that would achieve that very thing? Thanks in advance.

Any gyre powerhead will do it...I have 2 reefwave 45's in a 48" long tank just for this purpose

Are they on opposite ends of the tank from each other?

Oh yeah...I run mine at 40-50 percent and im maxed out as far as it getting outta hand...you will be fine.

I’m really contemplating an auto syphon surge system, like back in the toilet flush days. It’s ok in a big tank but is problematic in a smaller tank. Still thinkin

I turned my 13.5 into a surge system. Two chambers about 2.5g a piece. one low in the tank and the other pouring over rocks, because it is a tide pool tank. A sicce 3.0 runs it, down ito the chiller and up and over into a sock. Center section is a refugium and that pours and fills the two surge chambers.

I’m liking my Red Sea gyres…hope the maintenance is cool but I’d think you could achieve some wave action easily with two …. heck I gotta watch the sloshing under certain patterns/synchronizations

I’m personally not a fan of the waves. They are too loud as they splash into the overflow.
