Hi everyone, I had two big beautiful Borneman anemones (Phymanthus buitendijki) and they are now shrivelled to nothing but white blobs. My flow is lowered (it was initially higher than it should have been) and nobody seems to be disturbing them. I have read how hardy they are, but how is it that all other coral and fish are happy as larks and these “hardy pests” look nearly dead??

Any help is appreciated :)
Jaime

I don’t like pests but if you willing to stay on top of keeping it controlled go for it! They are pretty. Also it’s very hard to put to much flow on certain pests as they like to live in tidal zones.

Hi Jaime, are you able to post pictures?

My Bornemans have not done well when nitrates and phosphate get too high. Regardless of what people say they do appreciate proper water quality just like any anemone. I definitely would not compare them to aptaisia or Majanos.

Also I don't know why, but people have said they are glorified Rock Flower anemones but mine stay up high with my BTA, not on the sand with all the RF. They are beautiful.

They are very aggressive. I have never seen them loose a fight with any animal or plant. NOTHING will ever eat them. Thy must taste really bad or Hebert potent sting. They are beautiful. My plague stared out 20 years ago with one single one I bought for 20.00 I. A LFS in San Antonio.

How do you get so many? Mine has only split once. And only 1 seems to thrive.

Post pictures. I injected them with Kalk and they just smile at me. They are impossible to kill in my tank. I have to remove them one by one.
Here is an August and today pic... I have hair algae everywhere atm, so maybe it is a phosphate issue?

I also think they are beautiful :) thanks for the tip!

It split by pinching. 1/2 way down the column, the anemone pinch off with the foot portion grow new crow, and the top portion grow a new oral plate.
