I must have the worst luck. First my premium snowflake clown got cut which later got infected and from bad advice from the pet shop I got him, He passed a few days later. They told me that there was no way he had a parasite or infection because I bought him from them and to just give vitamins because he was eating and swimming. Well 3 days later he absolutely just went downhill, stopped eating and swam weird so I QTd him and it was too late and he died that night. So that was Sunday, well today Thursday I get home from work and my other ocellaris clown which is a juvenile decided to jump ship... I didn't even know clowns jumped out of tanks.. I have 2 fire fish with no top on my tank and they have never even came close to the surface!! I'm so disappointed I lost both of my clowns this week.. I guess I'll be spending another $65 to replace these guys, they were my favorite. Sorry for the rant

If you lost these clownfish to a parasite or worm, a fallow period would be best before trying another pair.

Should I remove my fire fish or coral during this fallow period ? They have no signs of being sick even the clown that jumped was perfectly healthy before he took the plunge. I think it was just an infected cut. No signs of worms or parasite in the QT when the first fish died.. Also how long should I leave the tank empty if I do a fallow period ?

Also I am purchasing a screen this week just hate the thought of a screen when I purchase the Red Sea reefer I have my eye on.

There was a similar discussion on another thread and two members suggested very beautiful lids, that would look awesome.

Check out artfully acrylic clearview lids.

Love mine. It was custom made to fit my DIY nano by "Smiz" at Tank Toppers. If interested, you can send him a private message here on R2R (Smiz), or you can find him at NanoReef.

Yea fallow is typically for ich or velvet. If you don't have of those in the tank, do you even know how long to keep the tank fallow? If not, you're just keeping the tank empty for an arbitrary amount of time that may or may not help anything. A cut getting infected and later killing the fish I wouldn't consider being a reason to go fallow.

I would not go fallow if it was a worm you can use prazi in the tank if it was a cut and a jump no you be fine.

Google images of "Brooklynella" and "Uronema marinum", and be sure neither of those resembles the "cut" the first clownfish died from.

This was the cut and there was nothing else on his body or gills showing signs of anything

My two firefish are still in the tank healthy and eating like pigs now that they are all alone

I had both my clownfish jump on back to back nights. They sleep at the top and i think they get scared and flop out. I even had a glass lid they made it out a 2 inch gap

@Tahoe61 @melypr1985 Is this the condition we have been discussing?

Yes. That's it! It seems pretty advanced... I've been thinking about it and I've seen it start out looking like a white pimple then when it get's red like that you gotta move fast. I've treated both stages of it with the kanaplex, metro and furan 2 combo successfully. When I looked at this picture on my phone I couldn't see the red mark very well. I haven't had any clowns die with this though but I've treated all that I've found. I still have one at the store months later and it hasn't come back after treatment.

So did you find out what this is or what causes it? Is it just a cut that gets a fungal infection or some other type of infection? He died on Sunday but I'm now going to keep those meds on hand at all times and have set up a QT.

I haven't but we are working on figuring that out. I have a new batch of clowns at the store but I have to wait until I see the symptoms again. When we figure it out I'm sure there will be a new thread about it.

My pet theory is it may be a dinoflagellate like velvet. But until I get my hands on an infected specimen; so that I can get a skin scrape, I won't know for sure.
