Bought a bounce...cried a little...

Nice!
How long do yours take to grow?
Do you frag or do they make babies on their own?

They got big pretty fast from being small without having the bubbles, until they developed. I would say maybe got babies (never fragged them) in about 6 months but nothing since then and I have had them over a year. I had a friend who put hers under to much light and it shrunk very small. I swapped out a baby (she put it in a different tank with lower light) and took the one back and it is started to recover. I have another type of mushroom and it has a different center almost frilly and developed bubbles but never put out any babies and I have had it for well over a year.
A friend of mine who would buy corals wholesale and got mushrooms in all the time (no names) and a few of us lucked out. Another person has a green one.
I read a great article on the bubble mushrooms (bounce name came about) and have never read about it being a disease. Of course they couldn't definitely explain why they developed the bubbles in some aquariums and not others.
Well enjoy watching yours grow!

Thanks for the info :)
Ive never done any research myself on the bubble part. Ive only heard here and there that its a mutation or disease which makes is rare.

My bounces feed just like any other large mushroom. I syringe food onto them and they ball up and eat. Some of the smaller one's will have bubbles coming out the top of the ball, but they still close up to eat it. I haven't fragged any yet, I'm hoping they will have babies and they are too expensive for me to trust cutting.
Yeah, I'm scared to death to cut our bounces...especially after paying an arm and leg...I hope they spit babies soon...

Just on my little cut piece I noticed it gained 2 more yellow bubbles!!

well....3 days ago I increased my light intensity by 10% for an unrelated issue.
found the little bounce shriveled up.
Now that Ive set the lights back to normal, hes been shriveled for 2 days. Im worried about him. Do you think he will come back?

He should be. The cool thing about mushrooms is even if they melt, the goop that is left usually reconstitutes and becomes a new mushroom. The only fear I have about my mushrooms is if they get detached and float away and I never find it again.

I had a very nice Bounce melt into a nasty glop of ectoplasm. I was getting ready to pitch it, but the seller said to keep the tile it was on. So I did. And like two months later that sludge is another mushroom. It does not have the bubbles or coloration of the original, but it looks like it is a bounce type mushroom. I am having faith that given enough time and care it will regain it's former glory. :)

Thats amazing!
Its not goop though lol it shrunk to 1/4 the size and I only can see itty bitty bubbles. Im hoping that one day didnt do too much damage to it.
Thanks for the optimism :D

As far as I can tell, they are dang near indestructible. I've had several shrink up too. Give it a week and it will be back to it's puffed up bubbly self :)

It is weird, all of them are in the same tank, on the same rack, and sometimes just one will go through a few deflated unhappy days. No idea why it happens since the ones right next to it are all fluffed up and happy.

Good luck!
