Bought a used tank, is this stand missing a support?

Problem is, wood isnt holding it. If the tank was placed on top of that trim that is being supporting by nothing but staples, it wont be there for long.

I think if you look at the pictures more closely you will see that there is wood holding it up on the center brace, the back, and in the corners. It's very deceptive since the decorative wood on the sides is attached to the inside of the trim.

Although now you have me looking again and it just doesn't look right... something is wrong with this setup.

I'm pretty sure this is the exact same stand. You can see the tank is sitting on the trim.

I have a stand that was made to hide the trim of the tank and I imagine this one was made the same way. Problem is that they're made for a specific manufacturer (mine slid in a groove that was machined into the wood but only Marinelands tanks would fit in that groove).

Nope, the more I look the more I think you are are right, it sits on staples/nails. However, I think if the OP measures he will see that it is supposed to sit on the trim. I would never trust this design.

I agree that I have seen plenty of stands that hide the trim of the tank, but I've never seen one where the trim would go up several inches like this one does. It would hide the tank trim, the sand bed, and more.

I really think it is a Aqueon classic pine stand and that it is designed for it to sit on the trim.

I think it probably came with boards that stretch across the supporting member to keep it the right height. My 75g Marineland's trim is 1 7/8" tall which looks pretty close to what is pictured.

Ok, I just got back to the stand. My fault I should have measured from day 1 and all would have been solved. Brain wasn't thinking logically.

I measured, it sits on top of the trim/rim.
Tank is about a half to 3/4" wider on all sides.

I guess I just didn't think stands were made this way, since my 55 gallon stand it sits inside. Here is a pic of my 55 stand, which looks similar.

FWIW I'm going to 2x4 corners and center, then run a sheet of plywood flush with the top. I don't like the sitting on rim idea.

It's an aqueon stand and a perfecto tank. I think it is designed to sit on the rim, it can't sit inside even if it was an aqueon tank, the supports dont work, and there's no trace of any supports that were removed

I think that is an excellent idea. Just because stands are made this way doesn't mean they should be. It is scary how little support that stand provides. I realize that there are thousands of them in use but I would never put it in my house!
