Expensive way to feed your fishLooks like somebody really liked him. F' me!

His water chemistry didnt cause this.If not water chemistry, then maybe acclimation? I could only assume that the clam would close up in order to protect itself from a nipper.
You have ammonia in your tank?Ph is around 8.4 and hardness is good, Ammonia little high 25 with api always reads a little high though nitrite no trace. The foot was hanging when I put him in, Peppermint might have gotten carried away. The LPS said bring a water sample if it checks out he'll replace. Thinking I'll just get a frag though.
Totally yellow.Overnight looking like that. I could see if it was a wither and die but holes trough the front and back. Honestly like I said that api has always shown a trace I've never gotten tot
Totally purpleI'm no expert either but I don't think 12 hours of nitrates being a little high would do that. Considering the way the rest of the tank looks.

Not being water chemistry was my initial thought as well after looking at this tank.I doubt there is ammonia. This tank doesn't look super new. You can see stuff growing along the glass below the sand and coralline all over.
How did you acclimate it and what did it look like in your tank before lights out?
Did you see anything actually trying to nip at it?
How did it look at the store? Was it attached to anything and how did they handle it?
I did the soak bag occasionally add a bit of water for 30 minutes or so. I'm starting to think he was injured when they took him out of their tank. The first guy grabbing it said he was holding on tight grabbed someone else to take it out. The clam never closed and it's foot never retracted. The peppermint shrimp saw he was injured and finished the job when I left this morning the shell was picked cleanI doubt there is ammonia. This tank doesn't look super new. This^^^ the byssal organ shouldn't be hanging from any clam. How did they remove the clam when you purchased it? Honestly, this is the thing that ticks me off more than anything. A store/employee not knowing how to handle a clam. Also, it's up to the you to know how they should be handled. Research and read James Fatherree's new book on clams.Clams should be sell with it attachment or else carefully cut the basal threads to free them from attachment. I will not buy, complete the transaction , if the clam if it is just ripped from it’s attachment.

I'm going to see them tomorrow but not sure I'll do another. The clam was in sand really didn't think they would have that much trouble with him. This^^^ the byssal organ shouldn't be hanging from any clam. How did they remove the clam when you purchased it?
