lol to the comments.. on a positive note they have really cool personalities... on a negative note, i was happy when my carpet anemone happened to kill him.... he was kind of a love hate relation.

Actually their reputations for eating shrimp is a bit over exaggerated. In many tanks(close to 15 tanks that I currently take care of) I keep longnose hawks with skunk cleaners and blood shrimp without issue. Oftentimes the issues with these guys eating shrimp, is when a large established hawk is in a tank and small shrimp are added, but if shrimp are in first and of a good size no interest will be payed to them. Also, if you were to add shrimp after the hawkfish, if you net the shrimp and place them at the rocks the hawk wont usually hunt them.

Also, they are incapable of picking pods, so your pod population will be unaffected.

It is also unnecessary to provide live foods as they are not picky eaters at all.

I have kept longnose hawks for over 15 years in every tank I have put together (personal and customers) and have never seen them eat a shrimp or crab or even try to. I just feed them the same frozen, pellet or flake food I feed every other fish and they do just fine.

have had one no problems with eating any tank mates ! Watch out they can jump out of your tank

Longnose and cleaner shrimp worked fine for me. Mine picked pods constantly.
