I’ve been in this hobby for over 30 years.
These bounce corals baffle me.
Why are they so expensive? What is so special about them?
They are somewhat a newer trend.
I was in a hiatus from forums for several years. And recently came back to find these insanely expensive corals.

Just wondering what I missed :)

Well you missed the peak of their price by about 2 years.

What's not to like? It's another texture option, all are unique. There are bounced mushrooms in many price ranges.

the more bizarre colorations/patterns the higher the price. not to mention there are those who buy/look for things like this, so as long as there is a buyer, there will be a seller.

When I went on hiatus Acros we’re the highest priced corals. Now they are fairly cheap.

Bounce corals look amazing. I just wouldn’t pay the prices they are going for personally.
Was wondering why they are so expensive.

They almost look like Rics or frilly’s with tumors. Brightly colored tumors.

Don't look at the price of acanthos...

There’s still plenty of torch variants that are silly prices too :). I don’t own any bounces but they’ve definitely grown on me. Will probably add some in the near future for the right price. My wife thinks they’re hideous though haha

You attach a name and a high price and people freak out. A fool and his money are soon parted.

Give it an eye catching name and color and as long as people are buying it at a premium, it will be sold at a premium

This is a great way to put it! I’m obsessed with the bizarreness of the different mushroom corals

I have some bounce holy grail GSP I'll sell for the low price of $500 per frag.

Its mushrooms with cancerous growths from high par and different lighting spectrums than there used to be.

I did this to some mushrooms running an outer orbit MH/T5 combo. Felt like an inexperienced idiot for doing it. Ended up cutting the lights way back and splitting up the rock and moving to shaded places to prevent it from happening.

If I knew I could have sold them a "bounce" to a bunch of rubes I would have made a nice chunk of change.

It's like people who will pay exorbitant prices for designer mutts. (See xxx-doodle trend)
