Hi I am setting up a new tank soon I would like a cowfish or boxfish but am worried about the poison the fish I plan on keeping 3 puffers 1 green spotted 1 porcupine and 1 arothron puffer (not sure which species) so would they be compatible I already have a porcupine puffer and green spotted puffer the porcupine is peaceful but he is only small now about 1 inch and but the green spotted puffer is a bit aggressive during feeding he rubs up against the porc

The boxfish only release the toxin when stressed or dieing. I'm not sure about the aggression question but I think for the fish you're planning you'll probably need a large tank, 180g+, with adequate filtration, as puffers are pretty messy.

The tank will be atleast 185 gallons do I should be ok

I would not mix the cow/box with a porcupine or other species of Arothron puffer. Boxfish are incredibly peaceful, and do not handle potential bullying well at all. Some porcupines are peaceful, but others can be quite nasty. Most other large puffer species are even worse.

Boxfish are delicate, timid, gentle fish who have the ability to wipe out an entire system if stressed...

The puffers you've listed are big, balshy and potentially aggressive fish with the ability to stress the heck out of a boxfish...

Not a good mix!

Either go FOWLR and get the puffers or set up a chilled out mixed reef and go for the boxfish as your showstopper...

Would a cowfish work? I saw one at a aquarium with a Picasso trigger and another cowfish in there with it

Is it common they release that toxin or pretty rare? Because I am considering adding one yo my tank, all my fish are very docile. But is the toxin risk that common to not make it worth it or?

I've kept them numerous times in numerous tanks. I have only once had the toxin releas e d and that happened moving the cowfish during hurricane Sandy.
