can,t really figure out what she is. We got her in the LFS a few days ago and she came in without an ID. Just labeled Boxfish

Looks like a female Whitley.
I hope you’re right. Have actually been looking for one of these, but didn’t think it was it. Now I’m super hype that it might be it, I’ve been waiting for almost 2 years and I’m finally getting my species tank setup for it.

Take a picture from the top and another pic from the side without the blue light. It will be easy to tell.

Female Ostracion solorensis.
Did some more research on this one, I think it may be better for my setup. I’ve got a qt tank setup for it... Would it be best to quarantine>>>then move to my nano (so I can monitor its feeding and such)>>>Then the final tank? or should I go straight from Quarentine to final tank?

Would this guy be any different then if I were to get a thorn back cowfish? I had the thornback in mind as many sources say it can fit well in my tank I’ve finally set up, but was reading that this guy only maxes at 5” in the wild. (the thornback maxes at 9” I believe) It’s a species tank by the way, so I’m prepared for the whole boxfish aspect of things, just worried about other random things.

The one in the picture looks really nice and came in super healthy, she’s been eating mysis and chopped clams and has only been in for 3 days.

Hope you set up a build thread. I love boxfish but am nowhere near keeping one.
I plan on it, I’ve always been very intrigued by them. I’m going to wait to let the tank run as we may possibly be moving within the next month, but since I already have grow out tanks set up, I might as well put them to use. I’ve been preparing for this ever since I got the empty tank lol.

Go from qt to display. As long as there isn't too much flow, and isn't outcompeted for food, boxfish adapt well to captivity.
