Is it really a danger to have a boxfish in a tank with other fish due to their defense mechanism to release toxins if they feel in danger? I suppose the answer is keep them away from a tank with aggressive fish...but what about Clowns? Would really like to get a boxfish for my (eventual) tank, but not at the risk of it killing off all corals and other fish.

IME boxfish rarely if ever release their toxin. If they are housed with peaceful tankmates I wouldn't be worried about it.
Clowns can be quite variable in temperament. Aggressive clowns may be problematic.
Dartfish, fang blennies, jawfish, tilefish, basslet, leopard wrasses, watchman gobies, are all good tankmates.

Cool - I saw a jawfish at LFS yesterday it was so funny. He was burrowed and gathered a bunch of tiny shells and was moving yhem around his hole opening to act as cover I assume. Pretty cute because we were just sitting there watching him so obvious from our perspective.

Jawfish are some of my favorite fish! They have great personalities and it's fun to watch them move things around the tank an burrow.
For sure, it was great to just watch him landscaping his yard lol. I really want to make a tank full of fish with personalities and a Jawfish just jumped onto the short list. Although that would rule out a bare bottom tank.

I'm upgrading to a larger tank and the blue spot jawfish is on the very top of the list once I get it up and running. I also really want the bluespine unicorn tang after seeing one in a LFS and it had a great personality. My other fish that have great personalities are the blennies and I just enjoy watching my yellow watchman goby with his pistol shrimp.
