I have a 55 gallon tank but the center brace is cut out, what is the best thing to use to make a new one? Also how long do I need to wait to fill the tank from the time I set the new brace in place with silicone?

i had a 75 the same way i tryed to glue a new one but it didnt work. i went to the store and got a 2 x2 made of oak didnt cost much and noched it on both side's to keep it from spreding then filed it it worked fine the down side is if your getting in your tank to move thing's or cleaning be very carefull if you knock it out you could have a big problem if the tank break's water all over the floor and if that does not happen you will still have to drain it to put it back but glue will not work i tryed over and over

Is there any of the old brace left at all? You can use a piece of acrylic, make a strip about 4 inches wide to go across the tank and drill holes in the ends of the acrylic and trim/brace, if there is enough, and then put a couple of nylon bolts/screws through the acrylic strip and trim on each end to hold it. Some people do this on purpose to have a clear center brace for the light to shine through.

like that idea paul. couldn't you also use the acrylic glue that bonds acrylic when making a tank as well for extra strength? just an idea.

Trouble is you are bonding acrylic to regular plastic so you couldn't use the normal WeldOn products. There are some adhesives out there that will do it but you would most likely have to order them online. You can just get the nylon bolts at Lowe's.

I would get a glass piece cut, remove the top frams, then silicon it down. Then notch your frame and attach it back. You could probably find a glass cutter that has scraps he can do it out of. Call them first and ask for any scraps. When you get there ask what it would cost to cut this one piece. LOL!

Don't most of the tanks look like crap on the top edge when you remove the trim? Don't know just wondering.
