I'm a noob. Had my "new to me" reef tank for about 6 weeks. Came home for lunch to find an asterina star had embedded itself in my only zoanthids. Successfully dipped them in Coral Rx and put them back in tank. Star fell out within 10 seconds.

yeah, I thought they were kinda cool until they started messing with the coral. That is the second time. The first one I just pulled off, but this one was down in the colony and I didn't want to tear anything.

Like @Retro Reefer say from one only can become many more..., watch there and watch hour-2 after your lights go off (they are more nocturnal).
Have some Asterina star fish, which aren't coming pests, and they don't touch the corals .....
I put 6 days ago given to me from buddy which say he never got a problem with them....., I'll watch them, but after I drop them in the tank.., I never saw them again ..., it's a possibility there the hermits crabs to kill and eat them ... IDK.

They will eat zoanthids ether right away or in time, they usually come out and feed in the middle of the night.. I would remove all you see
