Hello everyone!

My wife recently surprised me with a new Brain coral, but doesn’t remember exactly what kind it is. I was hoping someone could help me out in identifying exactly what kind of brain coral it is and better yet of there is a name for the coloration pattern?

I’m leaning towards Trachyphyllia. Sound right?

I think it's a lobophyllia. I haven't seen a trachy with such a papular surface.

That papular surface is throwing me off too, but it doesn’t have separate sections with shared or not shared walls. It’s all one interconnected wall. That’s why I was leaning towards Trachyphyllia.

Not sure if that’s the right terminology, but I hope you get what I mean.

I couldn’t believe it either! I actually like sending her to the fish/ coral store for me. She doesn’t have much self control when she’s there

Sounds like Target with my wife. When I go to my LFS, she stays in the car and after 5 minutes inside I get the “where are you?” Text. Lol

Yes but in her mind a piece of coral that’s $200 is junk. And god help me if it dies! I’m going through some issues with my tank now. Currently waiting on ICP test results but my SPS corals are dying left and right. Just glad she doesn’t know the money I’ve spent on them!
