I just showed my tank to a friend and he asked if one of my rocks was a brain coral. I had no idea such a thing existed. Is that what this is?

Ok should I remove it? Can I remove it?
No, it will return to the water what it used to be constructed. We don't just use live rock and sand for looks. There are buffering properties to it. Also, real live rock is dead coral.

T

The lights make it look blue. It is tan in color.
Fair enough.
Just reminded me of stuff i seen in boxes at my lfs which is more blue colour than purple and almost bitty texture and small glitter like particles come off in your hand when handle it which put me off from buying it.
But just googled caribsea life rock and watched a quick video brs interviewed someone from carib sea and guy states use dry base rock and paint it then add a hetrotrophic bacteria that lays dormont until put in water etc just for little bit if useless info if ever wanted to know ha ha.some manufacturers ive read in past make molds and press that onto the rocks as the cement setting to give coral like appearence ,lots lots ways to get same thing.
In my tank i went for 100% dry rock as researched for years first before setting up tank and all stories off pests scared me,but now im wishing got " real ocean live rock" which i read is getting harder and harder to get these days but even a little chunk maybe i could add at later date as i probably get more enjoyment at night time after lights out looking at all the pods/ worms and critters at night ha ha but as mibu said there no need to take it out tank as wont do no harm and you paid for that rock and if it was once a coral, whatever it took from the water to build it will slowly release back into your water which isnt a bad thing ^_^
These images below what i was thinking off but if yours tan colour probably isnt caribsea but i not expert on rocks so
