So in planning on upgrading my 20 gallon tank to a larger tank currently looking at going to a reef 100.3. So from a 20 gallon display to a 70 gallon and am taking my time researching what I want to put in, my current list in my 29 gallon isnt much, 1 clown and a blue sapphire damsel. They will transfer over.

I want to get a mate for the clown as well

My idea is as follows
2 clowns
1 blue sapphire damsel
1 shrimp goby paired with a pistol shrimp
1 royal gramma/black cap basslet
1-2 fairy / flasher wrasse
1 canary wrasse
1 pearly head jawfish (I understand that they can get territorial with other similar shaped fish)
Maybe another blenny or goby species

I'm also very open to dropping certain fish due to compatibility,Etc

I'm also looking at a larger "show fish" that would go well, with the ideas I have, i like the looks of fox faces but I'm also wanting to make sure that what I put in will be happy with the swimming room/ size of tank.

Also I am down for smaller but more fish that's active. So many ideas just want thoughts and possible an outside idea from y'all amazing people here

Damsel & royal gramma/black cap basslet could have aggression issues.
I have a yellowhead/Pearly Jawfish & a Midas Blenny that don't bother each other at all.

Understandable, and inwould have to watch for that but I'm trying to get an idea of what I want and some advice. My damsel is pretty laid back currently and hangs out with my clown

you could get a yellow easily or other small tangs but not ones as large as a Naso

i think your list looks fine, maybe put the basslet in first, but i doubt a springer damsel would bother it

for larger fish i like the dwarf angel suggestion. if it's a 70ish gallon tank i'd stick to the bristletooth tang variety or a 1 spot foxface. maybe the smaller butterflies, but they might really be a risk for lps/zoas

I'll have to look at the smaller tangs again
And see what would be interesting to me
you could look at a small angel, Centropyge variety.
I'm a bit hesitant on the dwarf Angel's as I know they can be apt to nip at corals and I'm wanting to do a mixed reef

More than likely once the tank is cycled I will probably transfer my current stock list then add the peaceful fish first. What I may do is use a acclimation box to isolate either the basslet or the blue sapphire damsel I have and stock the basslet.

As for the fox face the one spot was the one I was looking at

Fox face is a great addition. Although I don't understand everyone's fascination with one spots. A percula clown would be worth a look as well

Beautiful fish, I have one black oscellaris, I'll be sticking with oscellaris to pair up with him

great stocking! had 3 chalk basslet and springeri damsel without issues. i think you will be fine.

Anyone have luck with a saddle Valentini in a reef system?

Also another thought I had would be a hawkfish. Flame. Pixie or a long nose and tips of yay or nay?

Alright time for me to rework a stock list as I finally bought a tank! (While not the reef 100.3 I bought a frag 85.3 as it is a new release that was the perfect height I wanted) so a good chunk of what i put on my ideas i still want just need to rework what exactly. I'm planning on having a lid i would rather avoid jumpers Haha, still planning mixed reef as well.

alright working on an adjustment of tank changing the only change for the tank is the height, the length and width are still the same and of course less gallons in total

2 clowns (1 transfer from my current tank the other will be introduced)
1 blue sapphire damsel (transferring)
1 pistol and goby pair
1 pearly headed jaw
1 dwarf angel
1 fairy/flasher wrasse
1 red lined or melanarus wrasse or canary
possibly a small hawkfish
also would this be too heavily stock for such a tank? I'm looking into fish choices as much as i would love to house all of them i also don't want to overcrowd or over load the tank

willing to possible other suggestions as well once again this is preemptive and have tiem to change it up etc, as the tank ins't up yet.

also I have created an official build thread as the tank is ordered =)

the new list above basically same as original list but a lil more specific and i now know what tank ill be running

I would maybe reconsider the dwarf angels. In my experience, flameback dwarf angels are quite reef safe. I have kept mine with elegance and brain corals with no problems.

I was looking at either flameback or coral beauty

clowns (1 transfer from my current tank the other will be introduced)
1 blue sapphire damsel (transferring)
1 pistol and goby pair See Below.
1 pearly headed jaw
1 dwarf angel
1 fairy/flasher wrasse
1 red lined or melanarus wrasse or canary ---Not with shrimp Consider Fairy or Flashers instead. I have not had luck with Melanarus or Xmas Wrasses with ANY shrimp. Cleaner Shrimp were OK though.
possibly a small hawkfish -- look up which one you like and check on invert compaitibility

Remember, everything grows up.. So little fish get to be bigger.. think of what they eat when bigger.

:) 4th edit... I guess consider sizes with everything here. I don't know Jawfish and Goby interactions but seem like it might be a problem.. Angels and Corals, Multiple Damsels.. I guess the only thing I would seriously look at is the Heliocheros wrasses and inverts.. some will definitely munch on shrimp and crabs in particular.

I've been keeping in mind full grown sizes. I've read up on compatibility with jawfish and gobies most say the only time a jawfish will chase off or be aggressive towards a goby is when its encroaching on territory, even then mostly sand spitting, chasing one person watched the jawfish swallow the goby then take it elsewhere and spit it out.

The angel fish were more or less an option not a super big I want to have.

As for the Damsel the one Blue Sapphire I have will be the only one.

also with the pistol goby pair (i may have a pistol hiding somewhere in my current tank solo, I'll find out when i do the upgrade and transfer.

the most recent edit which doesn't look like much had changed truthfully, but I'm basing it around the tank I bought. Most shrimp goby species dotn get overly large,

As for the hawkfish I was looking at Falco hawkfish.

This is my first larger tank so asking fro advice thus why things are changing and as I finalized my tank options to a specific tank I'm trying to rework it towards that, Obviously its not up yet nor are all the fish owned. tryign to keep ideas out there as well as see what others have to say or opinions on the choices

I've done basic research on all species I'm looking at and some more in depth. I'm definetly still working things out and of course things can always change. I'm continuing to do research as well .
