Branching algae(?) on dead sponge

I got this sponge on a mushroom frag, it took a spill (poor glue job on my part) and I didn’t notice it for about 24 hrs of it sitting on the sand. That definitely did it in and it turned completely white within a day or two. Now it’s got this branching algae growing on it. I did see a hermit munching on it once but growth is very slow and it is still there so I don’t think it’s in their list of normal food items. Any advice?

Decomposing organics will promote algae growth. if your clean up crew is unable to eradicate or keep at bay, i recommend removal by hand or toothbrush
