We were fortunate to get a Branch Dendrophylllia. It has been beautiful until about 3 days ago it was not coming out as much and now it looks like the branches are bubbling and looking white. There are no changes to the tank perimeters so we are curious what may be going on with this one.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts to help figure this out.

How long has it been in the tank? Do you broadcast or target feed it? My fat head dendros will sometimes do this and then look fine, but haven’t noticed the branching and encrusting dendros do it

It has been in the tank since June 15th. I only target feed with Reef Roids once a week (had a wild algae outbreak when we broadcast fed so we don’t do that anymore) other than feeding the fish twice a day we do use Reef Energy + every other day. We also have 2 Gonioporia, an Elegance, 2 Frogspons, Pulsing Xenia, ultra neon Duncan, 3 rock anemone and 3 leather that are all thriving, healthy and multiplying or growing well enough to be fragged quite often so we are just kinda stumped

For my fat head dendros, it always seems to inflate when & where new heads are forming but I’m not certain that’s solely what it is - especially since I haven’t seen the branching/encrusting dendros do the same. When it’s happened to me I’ve just more closely monitored it to see if there’s any changes for the worse (possible STN) - but it seems you’re already very much on top of keeping an eye on it. So far, it’s always been okay after a few days. The fact the tentacles are somewhat extended/visible is good - has it been that way the past few days?

Just got home and sure enough the Dendro has some inflated tissue just beneath one of the heads.

While not a guaranteed diagnosis with what’s going on with yours, hopefully it at least reduces some of the anxiety and worry!

Beautiful Dendro’s you have! We love watching them, they are so wild and alien like.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge. It does take the anxiety down a couple notches, thank you.

The swelling has started going down. And there seems to be a bubble on the back side. Maybe this is where a new head may form?
How long did yours take for the new head to appear?

Also, do you have to feed your fat head daily.. now my wife is begging for one since I showed her the pictures of yours
