I just got some new hammer corals today and was just wondering how long do I leave the light on for them I normally leave my lights on for 10hrs for my other corals is this fine ? Also what happens to them when lights go out?

leave it low and acclimate the coral for a week.

Branching hammers retract into the skeleton at night, and your lights should be fine, as always make sure to start on the sand and move slowly into full light. They are very hardy and one of my favorites! Pics! Also they like moderate indirect flow and you should get some nice extension.

What is your lighting type?

If it's a ramp up LED 10 hours is fine, if it's MH I would probably shoot for 8 for now.

Usually the coral retracts some what when lights go out, it will expand and contract during at night but not nearly to the extent that it does during the photoperiod.

Congrats on your new coral.

Ya I have them at leds should it gives me the option of full spectrum lighting or moon with actinic that's what I have on atm is that fine ? And thank you

Yes that is fine. If you notice any color loss or paling in the coral just decrease the intensity for a couple weeks and then slowly increase.

Ya I have them at the lowest atm but was wondering for how many hrs should I leave them on

I was meaning low in the tank, like the sand. I have my LED's set at 50 white and 100 blue and let the new frags hang out at the bottom for 7 to 14 days. My lights are on with a ramp up and down for 10 hours and additional 4 hours of moon light. I have been cutting back on the light intensity for the past month and increased the flow. My color is coming back. I have one green mile that is back and forth but the other 20 corals are happier, if that helps.
my prams have been all over the place but are starting to calm down after starting the setup 7 months ago.
Mg 1320
ca 430
alk 11
ph 7.7 to 8
sal .25
temp 79
nitrates are high 25 just pulled the bio media out of the back of the filter and am dosing with carbon so not to have a spike of ammonia
PO4 2
Feed the kids twice a day with frozen mysis, brine shrimp and my homemade frozen food.

Give them a couple days and see if they are happy or not. If they are not happy change one thing at a time.
