Figuring out your needs Vs. the wants is hard in the begining. I bought quite a few things I had no need for because I read a lot of people with successful tanks were using X, Y or Z. Maybe its part of the hazing process to becoming a reefer!?!

ATO's are pretty strait forward and do not have to be fancy. You can always get one of the kits but Autotopoff.com has all you'd need for like $50.

Smart Micro ATO. You'll never regret it for a smaller tank. I was sooooo over topping off my 10g every single day after only a week of the tank running. And a small amount of evaporation can cause a big swing in a nano. You don't need any fancy set up either.
