Maybe extend your skimmer's air input line through the wall to fresh air outside of your home?

thinking of the same but last winter we had 3-5 days of -25 to -32.
dang polar vortex hit us 3 times last winter

Well, I clearly haven't thought this through for people who live in a deep freeze for part of the year.

Seriously though, perhaps a bit larger heater could take care of whatever difference that would make in water temp. Where is Bill Nye the Science Guy (or in my day, Mr. Wizard) when you need him?

Please don’t hate me, I forgot to take pics but there was this very basic torch, purple on purple with about 7-8 heads for sale for 60 at Manhattan aquariums. I’m kinda regretting it now.

Right but what will that do to the skimmer and water right around the intake. Since it is being drawn in and compressed just a bit it will further lower the temp. Not that bad for 30-40 but an extreme of -20 - -40. I'll play it safe no line to the exterior.

I have a drafty old house. I may drill a very small hole in the floor to get fresh outside air that's been partially heated from my heater, I have a run going underneath to keep the pipes from freezing. It's cold down there but just warm enough not to freeze them, say in the 40s or so. I could do the same with the attic, pop a hole in the drywall and then run the line up to the partially heated attic.

@Fin I think I'm going to try an airstone in my fuge. I'll just run an airline tube to the window using a splitter. Nothing drastic. I have a closed system and would prefer not to drop my nitrates. Thoughts?

If you had seen my high school chemistry grades, you would not be asking me this question.

You could give it a try and see if it helps. You are also talking to someone that only runs his heater a few weeks a year (and it is electric), plus my house isn't that well insulated. So, I have never dealt with that particular issue before.
