I would try and put it around 4" from the top on the left wall, mounted horizontally. See what kind of flow pattern that give you.

BTW.... when you use the powerhead trick, don't just blow off the surface. Put the pump outlet right up against one of the holes in the rock and see if you can get crud blasting out from deep within it. Almost scary what came out of my rock the first time I did it, but it was the best thing I ever did to combat cyano.

Absolutely as stated, I run 2 cubes sort of, get the flow broken up and more random.
