I spy a pinewood derby car! I won first place with mine. I had a very small narrow car. Looked like it would be very light.... but I drilled 3 holes in it and filled with melted lead fishing weights... yea, sneaky. Hey, there is nothing in the rules about filling the body with lead. It was right at max weight.Looks like it's genetic.![]()

I remember one kid in our troop whose dad would bring beebees and add them to the limit at weigh in. The kid won two years in a row and then they would not let his dad do it anymore. It was clear the dad made the car too.
I would rather my boys do it themselves. One year I had a boy bring one unpainted. He was very upset. Amazing what you can do with a black Sharpie and a few decals in 10 minutes. My mom still has 2 of the cars I made when I was a child. Such a great and instructive project. He has won 1st or 2nd place every year so far. He does his own work. Good eye Robin!
You beat me to it, I knew what that block of wood was instantly. Sadly my cars all had square wheels and never got off the line!I spy a pinewood derby car! I won first place with mine. My son's decorator decided to wear a new sponge today. He was so excited. He has been dying for his crab to be as hideous as mine.
