This is a riot! I used to fly with some very similar stuff packed into duffle bags, Pre-911/TSA but I never undestood how I was never flagged or even questioned. I worked at the time in communications splicing fiber and building out corporate data centers. My boss was a complete idiot and ridiculously cheap. He would always "forget" to order a few key pieces before each trip and instead of having it overnighted directly to the location he'd pick it up locally and make me carry it. Everything from linesman tool kits and reels of fiber to small breaker boxes pre wired with 20 or 30amp breakers and 10' leads of cable. On an x-ray machine it would have 100% looked like I was trying to take down the plane and nobody ever batted an eye.

That was a completely different world. :-(

All the local Navy bases were the next best thing to open air parks.

Who would dare cause a problem?
For the few random drunks that did, it went very bad for them very quickly.

Now all the grounds have fences and the fences have dual reinforced cables to prevent driving through the fences and
1 way barricades and some gates have Jersey barriers placed everywhere.
