Welcome, this is a great community. Smaller tank does not mean easier. I have a 120g display tank and a 34g Solana rimless tank(up and running for 2 months) the Solana tank keeps me on my toes - I have 6 fish and a hand full of red hemits to clean. You could get a handful of blue or red leg hermits to help keep the tank clean, about $1 apiece @ your LFS.

I've never actually had xenia. But, I do know a guy who had a whole back wall of an enormous tank just pulsing xenia. It looked SO cool!

Havent tried any Rock Flowers yet but do have a BTA that split recently. One of the halves moved to a spot that i cant easily get to and has been slowing killing a nice piece of Digi. Didnt move the Digi cuz thats all thats protecting a couple of Acros. Sacrafice one to save the many it seems.

(I digress, sorry). How is the tank? Current stock list? And if you do get Xenia, I would recommend blue cespitularia or pulsing Xenia. (Not quite sure what your aim is, as people usually get standard "Xenia" for water quality and to fill up excess space, in small tanks. Never owned any, though).

I killed one of my son's goldfish last night. Not directly, but it was my fault. I feel really bad. No, it isn't the first fish I've killed, but it was the first fish I've killed that wasn't mine.

Oh.. that's a bummer.

I found out the hard way the tap water here is bad. The second goldfish was a real bummer the third was rough.

Went Rome the 4 g nano he'd been in for a couple years to the 30 with a lid and jumped throug the tiny gap.

The death toll is going to rise...previous tank broke. Put them in a plastic tote for about 2 days and the tote had a funky plastic smell. I have usually kept a spare tank until I just gave in to my husband's need to get rid of it. I didn't feel right about doing it then, but it was 3:30 in the morning.

Oof, that seriously sucks... especially since it wasn't actually yours. I know the feeling, unfortunately.
I remember my first tank disaster. I accidentally fell on my tank, it slid, it shattered, my six line flopping on the floor. And if hardwood floor and ceiling damage weren't enough, as I ran out the room, I stepped on the Wrasse...

At the time, I didn't even have a plan b. Just hundreds of dollars of water damage and a dead fish under my barefoot.;Sorry

Ouch, sounds like a rough couple days. Hope you dont have any additional losses... i should probably strt thinking about a plan B myself as I dont currently have one.

Nope, I put my full weight on the poor guy.
As..inhumane as it might sound, it won't hit you as hard, after a couple more tragedies (I mean, that was 5 years ago, so I'm obviously over it). And they are bound to happen, even after quarantines and dips and treatments, no matter how careful you are.
Sucks but it's true. Eh, not like we can do anything about it.
On the bright side, being prepared can almost negate these risks (of course, while I was at college this year, my mother "accidentally" got rid of my preparedness) from time to time.
