Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

Nope. Adding new live sand should not cause any uglies. It's possible it may spur a cyano bloom but not too likely.

IMO the key is to do it as cleanly as possible and not stir anything up. The trick will be adding the old sand back in.

Drain the tank , keep the old clean water , as much as you can. Drain it down to close to the bottom.
Catch the fish, pull out a piece of rock and put it in a bucket with the fish with a power head.

Pull your rock out and rinse it if you need to to get any funk off and put it in the new tank.

Put all the rock and new sand in the tank.
Put the old water back in the tank. And the fish.

Add some bottled bacteria. Done.
You can rise the heck outta the old sand and add it back in or just toss it.

Thanks. I know this is something you've probably done a million times! This is a whole new experience for me.

I had to laugh at the breathe part. Exactly what I said to myself when I started the 8 gallon. Thanks for the reassurance.

Lol. No. Far from a million. And you've done fresh water. It's actually pretty similar in a way. Only real difference is the microfauna that may feed off the funk and the corals will appreaciate the mature water.

The only corals I have any concern with in your tank is the acans and plates. I don't have much experience with them. I had a little problem with some of my acros on the transfer, but those are generally kinda sensitive. And I'm pretty sure that was from the peroxide residue.

Oh yea. At one point i was defiantly sweating a bit.
It was actually sooo easy. Since then I've torn my tank down and rebuilt it a couple times. Practice.

We have 1 acan. I'd be upset if we lost the plates. They are intertwined and super happy.

If you have any problem s with them, just take them out and to the lfs or a friend with an established tank. Neat thing about most corals, they grow back.

I'm in big trouble. Last night my son and I were snuggled up in his bed looking at beautiful tanks on here. He said topless tanks were SEXY! (Wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or throw up)

I worked for Rural Metro and KVRS right out of school. I was the only female at the squad then. Those guys taught me how to use a French seat and cut the top off a car!

Nice! We have a few females that work for my dept and they are all excellent firefighters. I would trust them with my life for sure.

He was singing the Jeffersons theme song to the tank earlier. God help me.
Love it! I named my clowns George and Weezy after moving them out of their tiny starter home.
