Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

What happened was.... you had cyano an lots of yummy good bacteria.
A bunch of bacteria food was introduced. The population exploded and sucked the o2 out of the water.
The water changes are just to dilute the bacteria food.
The air stone and agitation are the actual cure.

No o2 changes the ph and alk. Thus the root cause was lack of 02.

Learning curves are sharp and awful.

In the 29- with the rock you probably only have 20-24?? Gal of actual water.
So you've done 10(50%) already.

I'm assuming it was just a normal dose of the carbon source yea?

I get that. I'm a little confused about the carbon part. Does it in fact have a negative reaction with nopox? Firstly my cyano wasn't that bad. I said wait it out...well you can see who won.

Honestly Salty I can't say. I dose nothing. I only have experience with removing things organically or manually.

Organic carbon. Not granular activated carbon. That's inorganic carbon.

Organic carbon is easily digested by coral sponges and bacteria and other primative organisms.
Very easily digested. It's sugar.

So when it was dosed , cuz you have lots of normal bacteria and also cyano and lots of other crazy stuff you can't see , the populations exploded really really fast. And they all need oxygen. So there was not enough for anything elese and the normal breathing (gas exchange ) of the tank was not enough to keep up.

So the tank crashed because of asphyxiation

Coming soon to Reef2reef TV!!

Tank Autopsy with Saltyfilmfolks !

Do you know how much he used.

I assume it was the smallest safest dose because you didn't have a visible Bactria bloom.

You have no idea how much this has bothered him. Seriously. Takes a lot of pride in what he does.

Nope it was a complete accident. He used the safest dose. If it was too high it would have been cloudier and even formed snot.

The only thing was ,you have a tight lid and no skimmer.

@TikiBird was having the same problem in her tank with her urchin and fish. Just no carbon dosing.
The lid kid kept stopping the air , so the fish and urchin just fell on the sand. Air stone they recovered. It was frustrating to figure out

No I bet I do.
Honest mistake.

Not sure why he's not here hanging out with us really. I think you're ashamed of us.
