Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

There is no framing lumber in the stand. It was built using double thicknesses of 3/4” plywood that were bonded together. The front upper header is 6”x1.5” and the rear header is 12” x 1.5”.

Can you show me the underneath top of your frame?
I ran it by a civil engineer and mechanical engineer and they both agreed it would be fine.

Are you going to be able to get the sump in the stand and get it out when needed? You had mentioned a center brace in the stand, so I was wondering. A door on one end with room to slide the sump out is something that I have done before on my old 200. Glad I did, because there would have been no way I could have removed the big glass sump that I built. You may not even need a center brace for that tank. I don't have one in my 4' tank stand. This sump comes out easy.

That tank and stand is real nice. The plumbing isn’t bad either

if I win the caption the r2r cartoon these are going to be what I buy with the 100$ shopping card.
Mmmmm safecracker zoa’s

Been drooling over these all day

@Katrina71 I just had the same wish you had -- That you could mix the Coral Essentials into your ATO.

It would be cool if you could throw in a couple drops of A, B, and C into the ATO but I don't think it would work that well. Shame!

EDIT: You know what... I'm gonna email them just to see.

Could you drop a powerhead in?

Could you drop a powerhead in?

Heat from the PH would probably cause some level of precipitation, I would wager no. But in theory, if it's supposed to be mixed into your 3 part solutions maybe it won't settle out. That's why I'm asking, they might say yes.

Good. I would love to use CE Amino in the ATO, but assumed it would settle.

The Aminos are specified to put in the fridge after opening. We were talking about their Trace A, B, and C. If you use a doser, you may be interested in those (or just get ATI essentials).

I must say, my corals looked best under ATI Essentials. Even more than under CalRX. If I had a very solid and reliable doser that I could not only calibrate, but would stand the test of time and had no failure rate... Yeah, I'd probably still be running ATI Essentials.

For precipitation?

I believe so, yes. The reason there's not an "All in one" type of trace is because not all of them get along chemically.

They haven't answered yet, I just kept reading all their products and they make a Calcium and Magnesium, and the Mag has Trace C, and Calcium has a mix of Trace A, and B combined.

@saltyfilmfolks

The pump section is about 5" wide by 11.5" front to back and 17.75" inches deep over all with the current media tray. The three recommended pumps should have no problem with this pump chamber. I could eliminate the tray and just have a wall due to no water drop at the recommended water depth of 11.75". Same on the skimmer chamber after the filter sock. If no filter cup or sock is used I would use an over under wall. The intake to the skimmer is primarily surface water on the Tunze 9004 skimmer and should not be a problem with some bubbles unless they are drawn into the pump. There should only be about 1/4" drop from the skimmer chamber to the refugium in an effort to prevent lots of splash and water noise. In my experience the more weir designs you use the harder it is to clean the various areas of the sump. The ability to clean is something I like to maintain for most users when making a design. So I tend to use less walls as it shrinks the hand space. My old wet/dry filters had a removable wall that held a foam sponge as a final filter before the shared skimmer and pump chamber. This allowed customers to clean under the dry area without taking the filter apart.

In this design I attempted to combine the refugium and pump chamber as one common area for drain down from the tank in the event of a power outage. As such I figured at least 4 gallons drain down and left more in case the return line from the pump is deeper underwater on the display tank. One of the things about new style sumps is the small pump chambers that allow a pump to run dry unless you have an ATO. In the old days the Wet/Dry sumps were shared along the entire foot print and the pumps had much more water capacity to draw on for evaporation from the display tank. A lot of the new sumps have these small pump chambers and must have a functional ATO just to make it to noon on a warm day.

Sometimes less is more when you are trying to give the maximum refugium for Katrina 71 sump monsters. The design is not set in stone and I am learning through this experience what some of you would want in a sump design in case I feel the need to jump back into the aquarium industry. I prefer the skimmer before the refugium due to the desire to prevent algae from getting into the skimmer as well as pods and other micro fauna.

+1000000 for the big fuge. This the dimensions questions.

I wouldn’t pull the media shelf. That’s stupid handy and I wish I had one.

Tunze are notorious for micro bubbles. Thus the question really. Plus the flexibility to use a different standard model in the future.

The kids at the school are able to use the skimmer! That makes me very happy!
Love it.
