No way to prove authenticity of something like that. I am sure it would be cool to have, or to even read, but not sure you find much treasure on eBay.

The fact that she said she bought it from the "Lafitte family" is enough to give me pause. To my knowledge, it was never really established exactly who his descendants may have been for certain. It is out of Texas and there is a lot of history about Lafitte being in the Galveston area for a time and he may have died there. Interesting going down this road again though. I may contact the seller just to see what she knows. I never thought this would go anywhere when I mentioned it.

My Family Story

My lineage goes to Al-Otabi Family from the Arabian peninsula, my ancestors moved to Burqa near Nablus in Palestine in the 1500's . My Father and mother were born in Palestine, their families moved to Kuwait when they were kids just before the 1967 Palestinian exodus. My Parents met and get married in Kuwait where I was born. we had to move from Kuwait after 1991 gulf war , after the war our family scattered all across the earth. in Phoenix Arizona, Dubai, Qatar, the Netherlands, Mexico, and few decided to stay in Kuwait, my father and grandparents decided to move to Jordan, Then I moved to work in Saudi Arabia. I have 2 younger brothers one in Jordan and the other one in Dubai.

The Original Family Name that some of our relative use is Otabi, the Family Name that most of our family is using is Daughlas, it is a sub family under Otabi. Abu Tahoun is just a nickname for my grand grand father and it means "Mill owner" they say he had a stone mill to make oilve oil, that all the town was using to grind their olives.
