Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

Is the polarized sunglasses thing a myth? That tempered glass looks different or something? Did I just make that myth up now? Lol I swear I’ve heard that hahaha.
Apparently you are correct. Polarized lenses do reveal dark areas in the glass.

It is absolutely 100% true. If you take a laptop and put it on one side of the glass and then look at it from the other side of the glass through polarized sunglasses, tempered glass will have black blotches with areas that you can see through to the computer screen. If its non tempered it'll go completely black. I tested several tanks at my local fish store before purchasing one.

That’s what I was thinking too. The sump volume to display volume water ratio would be pretty awesome. I bet I will be able to have a pretty massive pod population and nutrient export with a sump that large. I’m excited!! I hope it turns out as good as I’m picturing it!

When I go look for the 40b what’s the best way to tell if the sides are tempered? I’ve heard the aqueons randomly have some panes tempered and others not?

Look at your car windows with polarized sunglasses and you will see it.

Awesome! Thank you for the confirmation! So in the video he angles the polarized screen. How do you do this with sunglass to achieve the same effect? Due to them being curved wouldn’t that not work the same?

Put them on and look at an empty tank. If its tempered than it will be black or dark ovals throughout the glass. Might need a white paper to block looking through and seeing the other panels. Make sure you look at all the sides because it maybe a combo of glass. Dont assume because one panel isn't tempered all are the same. Most of the time the bottom will be tempered to cut cost.

@Hemmdog you might look for an inspection sticker that says rated for saltwater. I have seen them on tanks here. I'm not sure if it is foolproof, but...
Tampered is rated for sw too you just can't drill it .

Sounds like a plan, Elizabeth and I are going to a movie in a few hours and there’s a petco next door, we will be rockin sunglasses at night in petco with her iPad for the blue back light lol. This should be interesting lol.

Also and most importantly staring at an empty tank with polarized shades on is so much cooler than without the shades.
Hahaha. Absolutely

Sounds good. As long as one long side pane isn’t tempered I’m good to go for drilling right?
