No I’m an enigma. I was a veterinarian first and now I am a rural family physician on the side! So I travel around “Amish” country and other underserved rural communities doing house calls and do the full spectrum, minor surgeries, deliver babies, tons of ortho trauma care- fractures, tendon repairs, amputations and reattachments. As well as all the regular family medicine type stuff. I attend their deaths and births and everything in between. But my main two jobs are as a senior medical director for a major Blues plan out of Pittsburgh and a medical director for clinical and translational research unit where I am the medical director studying healthy aging as it relates to musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
But yes I have been amputating or reattaching digits for two decades in my Amish community sometimes at my house, their house or in the bed of my pickup!
