Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

I'm considering doing an AIO tank that has been modified to conceal a power head so the anemone can't get sucked up into it for a clown/anemone tank for the store.

I want a pair or several storms.

Did something similar with a RSM C130 although I did drill it for a sump I also had a one outlet closed loop essentially that ran of the original pump that came with the tank. It basically pulled water over the weir like normal then pumped it through the lower outlet, the return from the sump was returned through the original return outlet the tank was supposed to use but you could keep the AIO and drill a closed loop in the back wall of the AIO and just put a larger pump with multiple outlets. As long as the weir could handle the extra flow it would work out really well.
 
Guys, Coralline is formed by calcareous deposits that come from appropriate calcium and alkalinity levels, yet it needs calcium presence to thrive it does contain a solid base within it... So regardless of absorption, Coralline is your best friend and worth the extra supply :)

I also wanted to apologize with @Katrina71 if in any way we made her feel uncomfortable, I enjoy reading through these pages during my daily R2R rounds so Im truly glad she is back and posting again.

Since we're talkin about nem tanks...There's a guy on local forum who is selling BTAs and has an amazing nem tank, I'll post a pic of his.

Yes, there are two of them and there will be RFG nozzles attached to each. My returns will run through them, attached to two separate pumps, for redundancy (I previously had a pump go down while I was away from home).

That is what I use. I have a pair of 1" on the 210 gallon. Both with the RFG nozzles.

I was originally using a single Cor 15 but caught a sell on the Cor 20 so now using one on each line with the Cor 20 powering the one with the longest plumbing line. I figured it was a good idea to have two running for redundancy. I also have a Cor 15 running my skimmer should something happen they are easy to swap out and interchangeable.

I set up a virtual outlet to simulate tides. Every 6 hours it flips and the return pump will change its power thus one side is higher, other lower, to help simulate it. Love the sea swirls. Only thing I need to do is design something to turn on and run off a battery in case of a power failure. When I had the gyre's or another power head I could have only that device on a battery backup. Sea Swirls need the return pump thus adding something in to circulate water until power gets restored.

I will also have a couple of MP-40s in the tank. I already had them, so plan to use them. My thought was to have different methods of creating flow aleady in place, all cut back in the beginning. As the tank matures and corals grow, I can add flow without adding new equipment. At least that is the thought process in my feeble, aging brain. :)

It is a good plan. I had a pair of Gyre XF250's for a while but like you said with regards to the tank maturity. There wasn't enough to break up the flow and even 30 - 50% was causing issues with what I carried forward. Everything changes as the coral(s) grow so I think you have a great plan.

I am able to increase the flow on the return pumps and if required I could always take a XF250 and bring it back online. Just not a huge fan of them - too big.
 
 
I agree. The most natural looking tanks to me were actinic/MH combos. However, a VERY close second is T5/LED with the blue being handled by the T5 and the LED more of a daylight setting.
That's what you told me when I was having my light issues. I added a t5 one led wwnt out I added a second. Two antics 2 10k and a fluval4.0 led bar. I'm not looking back. Coral is taking off and the colors are amazing
 
Y'all might have to help me with flow in the new tank. I will only use what I already have though. Just can't add to the budget for something I can make do with. I know the MPs are nice, but...just like other equipment, they still fail and then it's a redundant expense.

I may have an extra pump laying around I'll check if you need one. Nothing fancy
