Andrew is really hoping to see a sea turtle. He also brought binoculars to look for sharks. ;Wideyed or is it GIRLS?

Probably see more girls than turtles... I've been going to the beach every year for 34 years and I've seen sharks, stingrays, jellyfish, horseshoe crabs... never a turtle. ;Turtle It isn't laying season anyway.

If you can, go to the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston. It's more of the aquatic life in SC from the upstate down the the low country than it is a huge reef tank that we all dream of... but it's very nice, and they have a sea turtle hospital there. Andrew can see the turtles close up.

Oh, and porpoises. I don't like seeing them. It means you WERE in the right spot to catch a fish, but someone else already beat you to your fish and scared off the rest of them.

I saw turtles all the time as a kid. Most memorable was one the size of a VW bug. Saw her from a bridge. Even then I wondered about all the things she'd seen in her life.

I am brand new to saltwater. My son got an 8 gallon bio cube. I know this is too small, but I promised I'd try. I have 1 piece of dead coral for decor and that's it. We hope to have 2 tiny fish and maybe 2 shrimp. We also like hermit crabs. What equipment, substrate would you guys suggest? I'd like to use easy (forgiving) live macro algae to help balance this tank. Please be kind with responses. I have been called names elsewhere and was referred here to learn.

Hi welcome to R2R personally I'm also new to the forum but not the hobby so I can somewhat help. Does the bio cube come with any filtration or a compartment for filtration? For the tiny fish a suitable choice could be a yellow clown goby as they require a ten gallon and since yours is eight I don't see that as too much of a problem if it were alone. For shrimp you could try to get a pair of sexy shrimp. For all of these inhabitants you do need to cycle the tank, you can use live rock or dry rock but I prefer dry since it won't have hitchhikers on it when you start out. You can use live sand but make sure to rinse it before adding so it won't cloud the tank. To cycle the tank I would suggest you do your own research because you can find out what's right for you and what also works. You can add bottles of bacteria to speed up the process though but I don't have experience with them so I won't say you can't do it. The hermit crabs are for the CUC (clean up crew) so I would add them a little after you add the first fish unless you are willing to feed them. The sand can be anything at your LFS that is for reef tanks, or saltwater tanks. Live sand is ok to use when starting the tank. Filtration you should have an auto top off like Best Fish Jake suggested. Live corals prefer an established tank with good lighting but this is already really long. Enjoy the hobby!!

One of our local club members built a collection tank into a closet in his travel trailer. He makes frequent trips to Florida. He said it worked perfectly. Pretty cool little tank. Hope he doesn't mind me sharing the picture.
