They say the Northern fire was started by power lines which makes me a little more understanding toward PG&E

I agree but they have done nothing to update the system and invested heavily into wind and solar while letting thier current system age.

They need to plan their communities better with the available water resources necessary and limit the population accordingly. Also they need to bury their utilities like Germany does. It would improve the attractiveness and function to bury their power lines. They also need to break up PG&E and create smaller local utilities that are more responsive to the local rate payers.

I agree 100%. Our fire in Gatlinburg opened a lot of eyes. They are building smarter and planting smarter.

One thing my company(not the one who just bought us but the one who has been around for 100 years) has been very good at is keeping the grid maintained. I can't speak for the current company, but they seem just as good.

However, I thought there were FERC regulations regarding just shutting everyone's power off. That whole state is a detritus show...

Buried utilities cost more than pole, a cost customers would have to be willing to accept...

My parents neighborhood has underground electricity, it looks nice not having powerlines... but the are under contract that they can never has gas lines installed from their electrical co-op, even tho the major natural gas pipeline is a quarter mile away. I have overhead power lines, but I also have natural gas at the house. After having gas powered heat and stove and hot water, I'll deal with the overhead power. Gas is way better.
