In this vain, I have a barb in my freshwater tank that has jokingly been referred to as “scoliosis” for a couple of months now. (He swims sideways with his head pointed the opposite direction from where he wants to go!). His condition has recently worsened and he is clearly going to die. Is it more humane to net him (no doubt stressing him and the tank immensely) in order to give him a quick death, or just let him pass naturally?

Personally I would euthanize if I know for sure it will suffer until it's demise.
But that's just my opinion.

He’s recently started hiding in my plants...but easier said than done. I had to put down a fish about a year ago and I can still vividly remember that.

It's definitely not fun or easy to do.
If it's sick that's one thing but terminal and knowing that makes a difference to me at least.
Either way I don't judge that's just my personal preference when faced with the situation.
Which I haven't yet in SW. When we had FW fish I have though, doesn't make it any easier.

It's replacing a worn one shes had for about 5 years now, they don't sell the one she has now anymore unfortunately as it's her favorite. And I might look into the sweater, I've got some new polar feet socks and slippers coming for her too

It will be a cozy Christmas for sure!

barbs are supposed to live for 2-3 years ish, they have all been in the tank for almost 2. this is the second barb to go out this way, I would suspect an illness but no one else has any issues, and on a 5 month timeline it doesn’t seem like it’s something contagious.

Sounds like something going on but that spaced out maybe not.
