I was thinking about using pegboard with short feet in our controller cabinet instead of drilling several holes in the back. It would make swapping out controllers in the future easier. A false back of sorts.

That's what I do over my sump. I use expanded pvc board. 2 1/4" screws to hold it than mount everything on that.
