BRAND NEW... can't get ammonia down

I don't have a sump or a protein skimmer, just the Tetra Whisper i40. Do I need a sump or protein skimmer? Also, do I need more water circulation from an external source?

Wait do you not have a hang on the back filter or canister? You need some kind of filtration like the Tidal. You also need at least one powerhead to provide flow.

I just have the Whisper... when I bought it, the sales dude at Petco said it'd be enough for a 30g saltwater tank, but I'm finding it's not enough to circulate the tank. Recommendation?

This from 12 hours with prime and Dr Tims bacteria in there, I'm not sure what else to do at the moment. I don't want to keep stressing them out with a big water change, the yellow damsel is already showing me his side

You need to do another water change. The ammonia is much worse for them than the stress of a water change.

Been doing 25% changes for 2 weeks, still can't get ammonia down. I'm hoping this bacteria helps
