Brand new need help

Right now I have a 20 gallon freshwater fish tank. I know all of you guys are saying, you don't belong here!!!!! But I do... I want to convert my tank to saltwater! I need to know everything. Hopefully step by step instructions. What type of substrate, fish, rock, filter etc. I am brand new and I know very little. Do I need a protein skimmer? And if I do what kind. Thank you!

Welcome to R2R and thank you for joining us! I would start reading and looking around on websites or at your LFS at what you might want. With a 20g tank I would do corals and fish and not a FOWLR as it is such a small tank and you wont beable to get the cool non-reef safe fish. A book that helped me a lot is The New Marine Aquarium by Michael Paletta. He explains everything you need to know about starting a SW tank.
