20 years in fresh water African cyclids. 3 weeks into cycling new marine tank...sooo different to freshwater I can't believe how long this takes to cycle completely.

Welcome! While it does take longer to cycle a tank compared to freshwater, it takes even longer to mature it to keep certain coral. I suggest research and patience to start. Reefing is a hobby of many years, and instant gratification is rarely found. But you are in the right place!

Yup started with a prawn and seachem stability,but it wasn't doing anything at all except very high ammonia level moved over to Reef revolution pro bio blast and ammonia disappeared with in a week of moving over ,nitrites still not converted still showing between 2ppm and 5.

Reef revolution is an Ozzy company not certain where else in the world it is available,the Brightwell stuffvinst readily available in Ozzy land,very strict laws in relation to movement of livestock and the like....

nitrites don't matter in salt water as long as you can convert ammonia you are good to go

Yup I've been reading that,so interesting.Just makes it impossible to know what my nitrates are so will be patient a bit longer.Wisdom comes from messing up many times.

Ahh it's just 100 litres just to challenge myself probably a mistake should have gone bigger butm cyclids tank is 500 litres so space is a problem. As the addiction takes gold I see some prized furniture being given away for a 500 litre Reef setup.

tell me about it nitrate reading earlier this week totally freaked me out,never seen a nitrate reading of 180 ppm was afraid to put my hands in the water incase I coughed some dodgy disease.....
