Brand new to Saltwater

The tank sits right next to my doors to the backyard but I can't open the windows because it has been about 103 feeling like 112 outside and it would raise my temp in the tank too much. My calcium was only at 120 and then over the weekend we did a water change and when I checked it yesterday it was at 80. I am not sure why it dropped. Or why it is that low to begin with? Is it usually higher with new water?
What test kits are you using .. I would say it’s probably user error ( sorry don’t want too offend) I would test again saliferts is a good test kit imo

I do have a protein skimmer in my sump. Are you talking about the airline hose that adjusts the skimmer? I have the seaclone brand.
I don’t know that skimmer I’m sorry .. but yes the air line that feeds it

It's okay, I am not offended. I could be doing it wrong. It is the API Reef test kits. It says to put drops in count the drops until it turns purple and it turned purple at 4 drops which says its at 80 lol.

It’s the only reason I can think of as to why your calcium would drop after a water change .. I wouldn’t trust that test kit .. look on your salt box it will tell you what the salt mixes at for alk calc and mag ..
