On eBay they sell 98% pure kalk for way cheaper than say seachems stuff does any one know what percentage pure seachems is? Are they over charging or is there extra purity

Kalk is Kalk. Calcium Hydroxcide. Pickling Lime for the cheap all the same. I now use Kalk+2 with strontium, and magnesium. But really don't see any difference.

Following along. I've only used Seachem exclusively for years & never had a quality issue. Our system evaporates 3gal / day, so I use a fair amount of it. 2 kg is $26 on Amazon. All things considered in this hobby, it's a great price for assurance but your question is important.

Food grade calcium hydroxide or oxide is very cheap in bulk and is appropriate to use. Look for food grade (or USP, FCC, reagent ACS, etc.). The % number is not a useful determination of purity for our purposes.

Seachem doesn't give purity information to compare. I would not assume the Seachem material is better or worse than food grade. We just cannot tell.

Mrs wages is a cheap and proven product from the grocery store.

I have used Mrs Wages for about three decades with success. Not all grocery stores have it, but Amazon does... and the container seals up nicely in between uses.

But the kalkwasser from BRS if "pharma" grade, o_O.
