breaking in skimmer

hi all , I'm currently cycling my tank and was wondering how long it takes to break the skimmer in , its frothing like mad and would like some help on whether this is correct or not

It takes a week or so...
Dial it down to the minimum, then...
Cover the air hose with a piece of masking tape and poke one very tiny hole in it with a sewing needle and gradually poke new tiny holes as it breaks in.

Don’t try to get any lather while doing this....just breaking it in
