This question is a lil weird but here goes. I have 2 reef tanks and one tank I just set up for a breeding pair of clowns. I have some asterina star fish in the 2 reef tanks and I've been throwing them away every morning when I find them but I hate doing that. So would it hurt to have them in the breeding tank? Will they eat the eggs? I don't have any coral in that tank. Thank u for the help

Makes no difference . Corals , hermit crabs , snails .

Just keep giving your fish a lot of food and time.

How often do u feed them? I'm using lrs fertility frenzy. Should I use other food too?

A variety of foods is a good idea
Frozen + pellets
Frozen+flake

Try to feed them 2 times a day
The more You are able to feed the better tho

Keep your lights on a 12/12 schedule
Do a water change st least once every two week
Tempeture about 82 give or take
Let us know when they lay

so I have successfully bred many different species of clowns. I always use a mixture of frozen BBS mixed with raw fishes, squid, and cuddle fish. The BBS is mainly because the female needs chiten to produce fertile eggs. You can get all of the raw fish from your local grocery store. blend all of this and freeze it. If you want your fish to breed quickly feed 5 times a day and keep water temp at 84 degrees F. You also want a long light cycle only 8-9 hrs of dark. The object is to recreate breeding season in the tank for the pair. also to what you said earlier if the stars climb on the area where the pair wants to lay it may hinder them from ever laying eggs. I always keep my pairs in a bare bottom tank by themselves with a flower pot. Also if your pair is young they may not spawn till over 1.5 yrs. depending on conditions it can take longer for a pair to reach sexual maturity. If you have any more questions I have been breeding clowns for over 10 years. just ask =)

sounds like you have them in a stocked tank vs. bare bottom. so you may want to stick a piece of porcaline tile near their residency. Through much trial and error I found that some clowns are supper picky about what they lay their eggs on and some Live rock they just don't like.

Also this is just what I've found through experience and what seemed to work best for me people have success breeding clowns in so many different ways. It really just depends on your pair and what conditions they want b4 they do the deed.

Thanks for all the information. I'm going to try all of it. They r in a 30 gal thank now with sand and live rock. I have a 10 gal I was thinking about putting them in with a bare bottom but I don't have a good enough filter for that yet. The 30 was already set up so that's where I put them. I'm going to slowly raise the temp. The person I got them from said to keep the temp at 78. I do have a clay pot in there for them. That's what they were used too. I'll try to get them some of the food u suggested made this week. I really do appreciate the help

yup no problem the problem with breeding clowns in a tank with anything else is the water temp high water temp tends to kill tank mates. Also make sure you blend the food really well cause you will freeze it then when u feed them shave it off into a cup of warm water then feed them until they wont eat any more. also bare bottom is nice because you will need to siphon all of the food that doesn't get eaten daily. Dead organisms release a ton of ammonia.

I get it now. I'll do a bb and no live rock. Do I use pvc elbows for them to have some hiding places? Would u recommend using a 30 gal or a 10 gal?

Clay pot. they will lay their eggs on it and it provides an awesome home for them
