Hello everyone.
I just set up my 90 gallon tank and am looking to start cycling it. My lfs sells pre seeded bricks from their system that looks clean to use to cycle. I know a lot of people use live rock. It wanted to double check that this is a good course of action for my tank. Also they said I would be able to add some fish almost immediately if I cycle with this. Is this a good idea or should I give it a few days to cycle?

If you know another reefer get about 5 gallons or so of their old water they took out when doing a water change will be loaded with bacteria. After you fill the tank and let it run for a couple days you can add hardy fish like a couple damsels to cycle the tank using lfs brick is just another way to jump start your bacteria you will still have to cycle the tank. Just go slow and easy

Adding the brick is like adding live rock. The brick will have beneficial bacteria if it's been in their system for long. But, that 's not enough to add fish, IMO. I have added live rock and seeded with beneficial bacteria (Dr Tims one and Only, or Fritz Turbo Start 900). Even then, you will still go through a cycle. You should be testing Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates. There is MUCH more to this then I've posted so I would do more research first.

It's my understanding the water does not contain the bacteria you want. The bacteria attaches to hard surfaces so adding mature water does not help you cycle.

I did something similar when I set up my first tank. Even though it was a success, these days I wouldn't set up a tank with anything but dry rock and a long cycle period.
