Brief Power Outages

I am experiencing some power outages due to a fire that is happening. What can I do to mitigate any damage? I have no backup generator but the tank has a surge protector. The outages last less than an hour usually although last night it was 4 fours long. Will my tank be ok?

You should be fine, if any of the outages are prolonged just use the cup method to manually add some turbulance

Cup method? I have mostly softies and lps with a pocillopora, will they be ok?

Yeah they should be fine. Just use a cup and scoop tank water, then pour it back in from above the water line. That will add oxygen back to the water. Just something you can do for a few minutes every so often to keep things moving. How many fish and how big is the tank?

I have a 30 gallon tank with a bicolor dottyback being the only fish.

Alternately, head to a sporting goods store and get one of the battery powered air bubblers meant for bait buckets and some batteries for it. Cheap and, perfectly fine for 4-5 hours.

That little fella won't use up too much oxygen or dirty the water.

An inexpensive battery backup for one powerhead. The bigger the better if you can.
Or the battery powered air stone.
Put the stone in the bottom of a length of open pvc. It will pull water up from the bottom , oxygenate it , and come out the top creating flow.

Everything in the tank uses oxygen and you want flow to deliver it.

FYI, I got power out from 8AM to 8PM not long ago due to power company decided to swapped out the power pole in my area......Nothing die or care about water not moving for 12 hours.

Why take a chance? I'd go to a local office supply store and buy a battery backup to bridge the gap between outages. While the outages are lasting less than an hour NOW, it might get worse.

Good point. I might get one of those or a battery powered airstone next timez It seems like the outages have stopped now.

I have 4 deep cycle marine batteries wired in parallel to a 5000 watt inverter. It is connected to 110 volt auto transfer switch. If the power goes out, battery backup kicks in. I get 12-16 hours out of the battery backup, depending on how often the heaters come on. If I come home and I find the power out, the tanks were supported while I was out. If its a long outage, I hook up my 3000 watt Honda generator.
