So I'm setting up a new tank and have Brightwell (dimpled) bricks to augment the rock. So I'm just bored and browsing around and decided to go look at Brightwell's info on the bricks and I come across this curious statement:

Normally do not use more than one brick per 100 gallons of tank capacity.

I've been keeping aquariums my whole life, marine aquariums since the early 90's, and my first foray into corals was in '99 or so. I've always considered biological media to pretty much be a 'the more the merrier' kind of thing. I can't intuitively understand why they would recommend capping how much media to place in a system. The only thing I can figure out might be the nutrient trap angle, but that's about it. Do they really mean that you shouldn't NEED more than one brick per 100g?

Anybody have any insight into this? Just a curiosity question.

Thanks!

Gerald

P.S. Just for information: I have 90-100lbs of marco rock and 4 brightwell bricks for an anticipated very heavy fish load and SPS dominant mixed reef. Tank is currently cycling and will update build thread hopefully today.

I use one for my 75g plus matrix. There isn't anything bad that happends if you add too much besides maybe lowering nitrates a little too much but I doubt you would have that problem. You are fine.
