I do not know if fish use trace elements directly from the water, but most photosynthetic organisms will get them that way, and they need all of the ingredients listed:

Zinc (min) 0.061 mg/oz.; Iron (min) 0.0063 mg/oz.; Manganese 0.00344 mg/oz.; (min) Cobalt (min) 0.000344 mg/oz.

However, whether you tanks needs them is a different question.

Of those, I only dose iron, but my tank naturally has enough zinc and I would not prefer to add more. The other two may be beneficial in my tank, but I have not tried them individually.

Thank you Randy. What about the others, such as:

Hafnium chloride, Dysprosium chloride, Ytterbium chloride, Samarium chloride, Holmium chloride, Terbium chloride, ...

I never knew that these elements existed.

Not surprising. None of those have any known biological role in any organism.

I also expect that they were not intentionally added to any supplement, but simply came along as an impurity in other, needed ingredients. Then some marketing guy said, why not make a big deal out of them?
