I am all for advancing but I don't think people purchasing bottle x at the pet store should be the guinea pig. Most, if not all, making this purchase do not know they are testing the waters/blazing trails for everyone else.
I find that very unethical.

I think that points to my latter point. Companies should be partnering with independent third parties... those with a strong reputation, GLP, and test tanks to be the "guinea pigs." It shouldn't be someone desperate to solve what ails their tank.

I agree with you, but in order to advance, we need a few guinea pigs. Maybe we find the next peroxide? Or it would be great if Brightwell would just partner with a few trusted folks to run some third party, unbiased experiments.

Here's a crazy wild idea.

Do a test that shows the product safely works and publish that before selling a product of unknown contents to users that are completely unable to assess safety and efficacy.

Other companies do it. Why not reef companies?

I'll tell you why.

1. They might fail the test.
2. Reefers do not demand evidence of safety and utility.

Permanganate in the freshwater aquarium world is nothing new. Attached is a fish treatment document from U of Florida from 2002.

Right in the first page, it's clear that the expectation is that it would be harmful to plants and inverts.

Is it possible there some super-low dose at which it still does something, but isn't harmful?
Maybe, but like Randy said, such data isn't provided.
