I am planning on using brine shrimp as my staple food for my fish. They seem to not like mysis even though I add attractants to it. I am aware of the poor nutritional value of adult brine compared to mysis. Would adding Selcon to it help compensate for this so I can feed it regularly?

why have a "staple"? I have about 5 different foods that I feed on alternating basis, some food they like more than others. I would suggest to explore different foods and find out what they like.

Have you considered hatching live brine and gut loading them before feeding as another option?

I agree.

Seems strange to state you know the food is low in nutrients but want to use it as a staple.

There are many excellent frozen foods out there, why limit the choice to brine shrimp.

i don't like to limit the options available to my reef inhabitants. i use a wide variety from brine (adult and baby), mysis, my in-tank population of copepods, rotifers, TDO....it does help having this option in case of emergencies (e.g., knocking over the brine shrimp hatchery). i use selcon and/or vita-chem along with RG Complete (for rotifers, copepods, and baby brine)...

Not arguing for making it the staple food, but nothing brings my fish out and about like turning off the pumps and dropping in BBS. It's the only time my clowns and firefish ever really leave their corner of the tank. Same for the YWG. Other foods they just wait for it to blow by.

Hey AlgaeBarn, no I haven't thought of that. I need to do more research on that thanks

I am going to try Sally's fish eggs to see if that like that, then Rod's food nano.

Of all the foods I feed (Brine shrimp, mysis, prime reef, krill, and NLS) the BS is what they take the most

Can never have enough options for fish food, clowns especially seem to get bored eating the same thing. We’re always rotating the dry and frozen foods, multiple brands and with a touch of garlic guard they will usually eat a bit of everything.

Sera, new life spectrum, ocean nutrition and hikari for dry then hikari, San Francisco Bay brand and pe mysis for frozen. Last group of fish didn’t touch pe but my blood orange clowns seem to like it. I’m always looking to add new food options to their diet, haven’t gone as far as fresh from grocery store yet though.
